Stunning Ring Brothers 980-Horse "Recoil" Chevelle Racer

You may remember our preview of the Ring Brothers "Recoil” 1966 Chevelle from late October. Well, we spotted it on the SEMA floor this week, and to say that Ring Brothers brought the heat is an understatement.

Unlike many Ring Brothers builds, "Recoil” is a track car that’s moonlighting as a street machine. And you can see those racing influences from every angle. Here are just a few thoughts on this groundbreaking machine:

It’s powered by a 980-horsepower, Wegner Motorsports-built LS7 engine with a Whipple twin-screw supercharger, RHS heads and a Holley EFI system. Before you go thinking that this is another easy drop-in crate, remember that a factory LS7 is a high-compression, naturally aspirated engine that makes 505 horses stock. Which means Wegner went to a lot of trouble to prep it for boost and then tuned it for nearly a thousand horses on premium pump gas. Impressive.

Also, that mill is an orange and black masterpiece as the black chrome-look for the Whipple supercharger and air filter housing is killer. And it sits in possibly the coolest engine bay we’ve ever seen. Its BASF Sand Storm color is the same off-white hue as the exterior and is a unique complement to the orange and black. Also, the inner fenders are freakin’ carbon fiber—along with the front and rear bumpers, the side mirrors and the hood stripes.

Five-spoke HREs have been around forever, so it’s nice to see these "Recoil” HRE series rims buck the trend with interconnected spokes. The 19-inch fronts wear 275 mm meats, and the 20-inch rears wear 345 mm tires.

Finally… Dat Seat. With the ubiquitous Recaros seemingly in every project car these days, who goes to the trouble to fabricate the most Spartan race seats ever seen?  So, so cool—and BTW, we’re pretty sure it doesn’t have lumbar support…

This could be one of the best street machines on the planet right now. Think it deserves such high praise? Care to nominate something you’ve seen? Let us know in the comments.
