Prior Design Unveils Ferrari 458 Widebody Kit

German tuner Prior Design has just released initial photos and details regarding its most ambitious body kit yet, one that targets the Ferrari 458 Italia supercar and its convertible brother.
Perhaps they are a little late to the game, since everybody knows about the Liberty Walk equivalent, and the 458 has been replaced by the 488. However, changing the look of one of the most easily recognized cars in the world takes guts.
The widebody kit is a Prior Design trademark. It doesn't matter if it's an Audi A4 or a BMW M6, they always start their projects by increasing the width. The first thing we noticed here was just how extensive the transformation has been. Looking at the front, it's easy to spot that the hood has been changed to one that's vented. There's no engine or other mechanical parts underneath, so all that vent does is to let rain water onto your luggage.
A new bumper also had to be installed, since the old one didn't match up against the bigger fenders. The chin spoiler is black and for carbon fiber winglets look like they could increase downforce.
The side skirts are enhanced by the addition of carbon fiber aero blades with flaps on each end. Finally, we arrive at the business end of this V8 supercar, where a small boot lid spoiler is seen, together with the revised diffuser, and a new engine cover.
The transformation wouldn't be complete without a pearl white paintjob and some tasty candy red wheels from ADV1. There's no talk of any performance changes yet, but some previous Prior Design models boasted over 1,000 horsepower.
Compared to the Liberty Walk kit, this widebody Ferrari is tame. You also don't get the feeling that it will earn you respect in the supercar community. However, the wheels clear the fenders perfectly without the need to be chopped, so it's more practical and less invasive. What we need now is a couple of turbochargers.
