Torque rises to 700 Nm
Audi is adding a "plus" version of its hot-diesel SQ5
TDI which ups the power ante to 340 PS.
The original SQ5 TDI came out back in 2012 as an interesting
crossover with a powerful diesel heart in the form of a twin-turbo 3.0-liter
TDI with 313 PS (230 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. Now, Audi is
introducing a higher specification "plus" edition which comes with an uprated
configuration of the same six-cylinder engine pushing out 340 PS (250 kW) and
700 Nm (517 lb-ft) thanks to increased injection pressure that makes it even more powerful than the limited-run 326 PS SQ5
Competition launched recently in Spain.
Surprisingly, the extra muscle has not improved the model's
performances as the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) continues to take 5.1 seconds while
top speed stands at an electronically-governed 155 mph (250 km/h). This is
still a diesel so the SQ5 TDI plus manages to remain quite frugal as it
consumes just 6.6 liters / 100 km (35.6 mpg US or 42.8 mpg UK) and has corresponding CO2 emissions of 174
g/km.
As you would expect from an S model, it comes as standard
with the quattro all-wheel drive system and for the first time on a Q5 model it
benefits from a sport differential at the rear axle which distributes the power
to the wheels. Speaking of which, the high-performance diesel crossover rides
on glossy black 21-inch Audi Sport wheels wrapped around in 255/40 R21 tires.
Besides these mechanical upgrades, the SQ5 TDI plus has also
received an extended glossy black visual package that now includes the door
handles, side mirror caps, diffuser and the roof edge spoiler. It also can be
distinguished by the two clasps joining the menacing quad exhaust setup while
on the inside it has gained a sliding rear seat bench, leather-wrapped door
armrests and a fine Nappa leather upholstery featuring a silver diamond
pattern.
Moreover, an Audi exclusive selection macaw blue is
available in 100 units and as the name suggests it brings a macaw blue paint
combined with black fine Nappa leather-wrapped sport seats inside with macaw
blue stitching also noticeable on the steering wheel, floor mats and selector
lever gaiter. Rounding off the list of tweaks are the inlays in
aluminum/Beaufort and black.
The standard Audi SQ5 TDI plus has a starting price in
Germany of €67,700 while the aforementioned optional package costs an extra
€12,000.
