Own This Quirky Shelby GT350H Mustang Racer
Last week we gave you a quick history lesson on how Hertz and Shelby came together to create the now-iconic GT350H (read it here). Essentially, it was a performance coupe that anyone with a few bucks could get in and drive. But you’ll have to pay more than a few bucks if you want this one.
This rare Shelby GT350H is headed to auction in Dallas as part of the Sam Pack Collection, and it ain’t going for cheap. Expected to fetch between $100,000 – $150,000, the iconic pony car features a 572-horsepower V8 and a four-speed transmission. Not to mention the face looks like something out of a cartoon, which is fun.
This “rent-a-racer” was used in Hertz’s fleet up until 1965, it was taken into private ownership in 1966, and then in 2003, Cobra Automotive of Wallingford, Connecticut, turned it into a thoroughbred vintage racer, competing in SCRA, HSR, SCCA, and SAAC events. This icon has raced on tracks like Sebring, Watkins Glen, and even Road America.
But the racing team is parting ways with its American icon, and is giving anyone with a lot of disposable income the chance to own it. This car will be auctioned off at RM’s Sam Pack auction on November 15th, in Dallas, Texas.
