BMW’s 7 Series range doesn’t
have a direct competitor for the likes of Mercedes-Benz’s S63 AMG or
the Audi S8. There’s simply no reason to create one says BMW. And that’s
the truth. Who in their right mind would take a limousine to the track?
Nobody. But bragging rights are selling cars these days.
Actually, they always did so the trend going on today shouldn’t
surprise anyone. In the 7 Series range, the most powerful and fastest
model is the 760i and, according to our info, it will remain so for the
new generation as well.
It’s offering a 6-liter V12 engine with two turbochargers on it
that is making 544 HP and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque at the same time.
With it, the limousine will reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.6 seconds and
that’s enough grunt for any executive.
However, the Alpina offering might fill in for those looking for
more. It has a tuned 4.4-liter V8 N63 engine under the bonnet making 540
HP and 730 Nm (538 lb-ft) of torque and can also be had with xDrive.
The B7 Biturbo xDrive is the fastest 7er you can get at 4.5 seconds to
100 km/h (62 mph), a small difference, we know, but still important from
that bragging perspective.
The thing that makes the Alpina choice stand out even more,
however, is the way it looks. The reshaped exterior design is a thing of
beauty and the photo gallery below captured by the guys from Autogespot should prove our point.
Don’t get too excited, though. The price for any B7 starts at
€130,000 in Europe, including 19% VAT. In the States, the price starts
at $132,200 and that’s before you dwell into optionals.
