Specialized in developing and
producing extremely mad road-legal and racing cars, the Romeo Ferraris
outfit from Basiglio, Italy made our jaws drop with a bruiser based on
the 500 Abarth. If you thought the 231 hp MINI Cooper JCW is as mad as they come, wait ’til you hear what this tuning creation boasts with.
Whereas the normal 500 Abarth makes do with a 1.4L turbocharged MultiAir with 160 horsepower and 230 (170 lb-ft) of torque, the Romeo Ferraris Cinquone is a 244 horsepower and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft) machine. That's greater than the Abarth 695 Edizione Maserati and its 177 hp and 249 Nm (183 lb-ft)!
Furthermore, some weight saving solutions such as a number of carbon fiber bits and bobs and the deletion of the rear seats makes the Cinquone Corsa weigh a mere 970 kilos (2,138 lbs). Then there’s the visual add-ons that further sportify the racy exterior looks.
That enormous radiator grille, special paint finish and the central exhaust system do it for us
We’re not too fond of the 18-inch wheels, but hey, the Romeo Ferraris creation can blitz to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.5 seconds and accelerate all the way to 240 km/h (149 mph) thanks to all the go-faster components added by Romeo Ferraris. Speaking of which, a basic Cinquone Corsa Cabrio will set you back €69,220 or $86,088 at current rates, which is not cheap considering a 911 Carrera costs $84,300.
If you don’t need all the racing paraphernelia, including the incredibly hard dampers setup of the Corsa, Romeo Ferraris also offers semi-skimmed variants of the breed. The entry-level Cinquone (157 hp and 230 Nm / 169 lb-ft) will cost you €47,762 ($59,400). But our favorite 500 Romeo Ferraris Cinquone is the not too soft and not too hardcore S, which develops 207 horsepower and 310 Nm (228 lb-ft) of torque.
