Ahead of the Geneva Motor Show 2015, the brand new Brabus Rocket 900 has just been introduced. The car is based around the Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG and is the fastest and most potent model currently offered by the German tuning firm.
For starters, Brabus focused extensively on the Rocket 900’s engine
to ensure it delivers as much power as possible. With that in mind, the
6.0-litre V12 engine of the Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG has been outfitted
with a custom Brabus billet crankshaft complete with a longer stroke and
larger cylinder bore. As a result, capacity has increased to
6.3-litres.
Additionally, the Brabus Rocket 900 features larger pistons as well
as turbochargers featuring larger compressor units and a larger turbine.
Elsewhere, 80 mm downpipes have been installed alongside modified
exhaust manifolds. A new air intake system is also found on the Brabus
Rocket 900 with it drawing in cold air directly from the radiator and
front grille. The new intake manifold also features gold heat reflection
to ensure it always provides maximum power in even the hottest
conditions.
The result of all this engine work means the Brabus Rocket 900
delivers 900 hp (as the name suggests) at just 5500 rpm. Additionally,
torque has been upped to 1106 lb-ft at 4200 rpm but that has been
electronically limited to 884 lb-ft. All of this power is funnelled
through the rear wheels through a beefed up seven-speed automatic
transmission and a limited-slip differential at the rear. All told, the
Brabus Rocket 900 will accelerate to 100 km/h in a mere 3.7 seconds, 200
km/h in 9.1 seconds and a top speed in excess of 350 km/h. Brabus has
also installed the Rocket 900 with its AirMatic Sport suspension system
which drops the ride height by 15 mm without compromising the ride
quality.
Visually speaking, it is exceptionally easy to distinguish the Brabus
Rocket 900 from the standard Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG Coupe. With that in
mind, the front fascia has been extensively modified with it
incorporating a new grille and thoroughly revised air intake surrounds.
Additionally, a new splitter has been installed for an added sense of
aggression. Moving along the sides, the Rocket 900 features a new air
extractor behind the front wheels and lowered side skirts. A number of
wheel options are then available ranging from 21 and 22 inch sizes. Both
measure 9 inch wide at the front while the 21-inch wheels are 10.5 inch
wide at the rear and the 22-inch shores are a slightly narrower 10 inch
wide up back. Either way, both feature 255/35 and 295/30 tyres.
The visual modifications are then completed at the rear end with the
Brabus Rocket 900 adopting a subtle bootlid lip spoiler, new bumper,
revised quad exhaust pipes and a bold diffuser incorporating a Formula
One inspired high-intensity brake light.
Inside, the Brabus Rocket 900 can be installed with the iBusiness
multimedia system from the tuner. It includes an iPad mini which fits
neatly into the rear compartment. Additionally, it includes a docking
station and can be used to control all the functions of the iBusiness
system. It is then connected wirelessly to a small Mac Mini computer in
the boot. The iBusiness system also includes a 15.6 inch TFT monitor.
