Performance diesel compact luxury crossovers aren't for everyone.
The Alpina XD3 Bi-Turbo
is quite a specific product. It's a high performance machine, but it's
also diesel. It's a crossover, but it's also pretty small. But if Porsche
can make a Macan Diesel, then the folks at Alpina knew that this could
work. For 2015, the XD3 Bi-Turbo has had a facelift, which is natural
result of the BMW X3
having gotten one as well. The 3.0-liter diesel V6 and its two
turbochargers are now making 345 horsepower and a whopping 516 lb-ft of
torque.
The crossover will sprint to 60 mph in just 4.9
seconds, which is plenty quick, diesel or otherwise. The front and rear
fascias have been reworked and are more recognizably Alpina, as are the
requisite signature wheels. But now for a bit of bad news, this vehicle
will cost you $77,000. While it's true that that is cheaper than a Macan
S Diesel, it is just shy of double the price of an X3. This obviously
makes for an even more specific product, and we can't imagine that
you'll see a lot of these out on the street.
