Turns out Mansory and Brabus
are not the only tuners capable of extracting big power from the 5.5
liter bi-turbo V8 in the Mercedes G63 AMG. Mcchip-DKR has just announced
their upgrade package for this motor, and it is satisfyingly powerful
without shouting too much about it.
In fact, Mccihp’s Mercedes G63 AMG is
completely stock on the outside. Under the bonnet however, interesting
stuff goes on as the tuner has fitted the AMG engine not just with a new
ECU program, which is their signature dish, but also with a custom
exhaust system featuring sports cats. Total cost of the upgrades comes
to 7,239 EUR.
Those changes increase the output of the
engine from the standard 544 PS and 700 Nm of torque to a cool 668 PS
with 920 Nm. Granted, tuners like Mansory and Brabus offer 800 Ps
packages for this engine. But realistically the performance difference
is not that significant between a 670 PS car and an 800 PS car. And
that’s with sports cars, let alone a giant SUV!
Another unusual – for Mcchip, at least –
feature this Mercedes G63 AMG is equipped with is a complete KW DDC
suspension system with uprated shocks and spring. DKR rarely cares about
chassis upgrade, but since they have given this G63 a lot more power
than usual they had to make sure the car stay in check.
