Dodge Viper GTS upgraded to 710 PS by Geiger Cars
German tuner Geiger Cars has elaborated an upgrade program for the Dodge Viper GTS.It’s not every day that we see a Euro tuner working on an American car, but we know Geiger Cars has a soft spot for US-spec models and it was only a couple of months ago when they tuned the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Now, they shifted focus towards a meaner machine as the subject of an upgrade program was none other than the Dodge Viper in the GTS specification.
Work started on the old-school V10 8.4-liter naturally aspirated engine made entirely from aluminum and hand-crafted. It has received a modified airbox along with a custom-made exhaust system equipped with tubular headers and sport catalysts. They also fiddled around with the motor’s ECU and in the end managed to squeeze a grand total of 710 PS (522 kW) at 6,100 rpm and 861 Nm (636 lb-ft) at 5,500 rpm which represents a significant increase over the standard 654 PS (481 kW) and 813 Nm (600 lb-ft).
As a result of the added oomph (which costs €11,900), the upgraded Dodge Viper GTS now runs the sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.9 seconds and continues to accelerate until it hits a top speed of 212 mph (341 km/h).
Besides extracting more power from the hand-crafted, all-aluminum V10, the tuners at Geiger Cars also installed a KW Variant 2 coil-over suspension package (€4,700) that has lowered the Viper GTS by 30 mm. In addition, there’s also a new carbon fiber aerodynamic body kit (€5,866) encompassing a front spoiler lip, rear apron (with diffuser) and a new spoiler.
As a final note, there’s a worrying rumor Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has plans to kill the Viper in 2017 and at the moment there is no word regarding a potential successor.
