Brabus’s booth at this year’s Geneva Motor Show is a horsepower pleasure house. After introducing the Rocket 900 S65 Coupe,
they have now unveiled at the show the Brabus Mercedes G63 850
Widestar, a new and even more insane take on the high-performance SUV.
The heart of Brabus Mercedes G63 850 is a
heavily revised, increased-displacement version of AMG’s 5.5 liter
biturbo V8. The unit is upped to 6.0 liter capacity by Brabus and fitted
with all sorts of high-performance components, such as eight forged
pistons with a diameter of 99 millimeters, precision-balanced billet
crankshaft with a stroke of 96 millimeters, larger turbos, modified
exhaust, special “Gold Heat Reflection” sheathing for the air pipes,
and…
The result of all that is 850 HP (838
bhp) and a peak torque of 1,450 Nm (1,069 lb-ft), delivered to the
ground via 23-inch BRABUS “PLATINUM EDITION” Monoblock Y forged wheels
supported by Dynamic Ride Control suspension. This arrangement enables
the Brabus Mercedes G63 850 Widestar to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in
just 4.0 seconds and reach a limited top speed of 260 km/h (162 mph).
But performance is not the primary factor
in many people’s minds when they think about buying this half a million
Euro monster. The biggest attraction of a Widestar Brabus G-Class is
the say it looks, what with the sport bumpers and hood and fender
flares, not to mention the custom iBusiness interior. It’s all about the
invincible feel of the thing.
