Volvo XC90 by Polestar to have at least 350 bhp

Volvo-owned Polestar has announced a beefier XC90 is on its way with an upgraded configuration of the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Drive-E engine.
It was back in February this year when Polestar revealed plans for an upgraded second generation XC90 and now they have revealed additional information by announcing it will have the newly developed 2.0-liter Drive-E engine. Although it will still be a four-cylinder, Polestar’s chief operating officer mentions it’s going to be “as strong or even stronger” than the outgoing six-cylinder motor. Unsurprisingly, the engine will be both turbocharged and supercharged and is expected to generate at least 350 bhp (261 kW) channeled to the road through an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The output figure doesn’t sound very impressive taking into account the hybrid T8 Twin Engine has a combined 400 bhp (298 kW), but keep in mind the Polestar-tuned XC90 will be lighter since it will come without electrical assistance. That being said, the model will still weigh more than 2,000 kg if we consider the 320 bhp T6 AWD tips the scales at 2,126 kg, so don’t expect any mind-blowing performances.
The same uprated engine will also power some other higher specification Volvos and Polestar says they are also considering performance hybrids.
