This will blow your mind.
If you’ve been waiting to see something outrageous at this year’s SEMA show, then the wait is over. Toyota has arrived in Las Vegas with something completely OTT. It’s a Toyota Camry
housing a purpose-built Funny Car-style dragster powered by a
Tundra-sourced 5.7-liter supercharged V8 equipped with a wet nitrous
system that sends 850 hp to the rear wheels. The aptly-named “Sleeper
Camry” also borrows the pickup’s transmission and rear axle, and
features a tubular chassis as well as production alloys wrapped in drag
racing rubber.
Apart from the lowered stance and beefy tires, with
its flipper body closed there is nothing to suggest the custom Camry
will run a 9.8-second quarter mile. All four doors work, although only
the driver has a chance of getting in. The interior has been completely
stripped out, and comes packing a Fast Ed’s racing seat, Autometer
digital dash, and Impact Racing four-point harness. After its stint at
SEMA this week, Toyota will parade the spectacular Sleeper Camry at NHRA
drag races across the US.
