Set to star in Gymkhana Seven.
Spied last month and sitting menacingly at Ford's
SEMA show booth, Ken Block’s Hoonicorn RTR Mustang has just been
unveiled ahead of its starring role in Gymkhana Seven. A complete
one-off, and the world’s first performance all-wheel-drive 1965 Mustang
notchback, the retro-mod is a collaborative effort between Block,
Hoonigan and RTR. It took ASD Motorsports in Charlotte, North Carolina,
two years to complete the project, with the iconic pony car heavily
modified to fit a 410 cubic-inch (6.7-liter) Roush Yates V8 delivering
845 hp and 720 lb-ft of torque.
All that mind-blowing power is delivered to all four
wheels via a six-speed Sadev AWD transmission with a hydraulic handbrake
system. Inspired by WRC and DTM cars as well as some toy cars from
Block's childhood days (seriously), the widebody Stang boasts a full
tubular chassis, custom roll cage, door bars and suspension mounts, and
RTR carbon-fiber body panels. It rides on 18-inch fifteen52 three-piece
alloys wrapped in bespoke Pirelli Trofeo R rubber. “This is a project
that I’ve been working on for two years, so to see it fully come to
fruition and be able to drive it for Gymkhana Seven was absolutely
amazing,” said Block.
“I also knew that working
with Vaughn [Gittin Jr.] and his RTR team was the right choice for this
project since Mustang’s are their world, but they really went above and
beyond on this car. The attention to detail with the fabrication and
bodywork blows my mind. This is hands-down the best Gymkhana car I’ve
had yet.”
