Eduard Pogea is no fan of half measures and so it is no wonder that the Abarth presented by Pogea Racing not only received a ‘power upgrade’ to 331 hp – that’s more than a new Focus RS – but a complete makeover, the tuning art refined in all disciplines.
From the wide tyres to the antenna tip, the specialists from Friedrichshafen in southern Germany have put the Pogea Racing Fiat Abarth 500 through an extensive fitness program. Pogea and his team first gave the small car a major weight reduction and replaced a multitude of heavy standard parts with new bodywork made from carbon fibre.
Nearly every element of the Pogea Racing aerodynamic design is produced in carbon, precisely built on to the vehicle that was initially gutted and then painted in the matt Monterey blue of Koenigsegg. In all, with the carbon fibre and by removing the rear seating, Pogea has cut the weight by 71 kilograms compared to the standard car
The eye-catching part of the new bodywork design is the striking front spoiler as well as the newly designed engine bonnet with NACA duct and Trofeo ventilation system. In combination with the front splitter, Pogea Racing has both achieved an aggressive look and optimised engine compartment ventilation for lower temperatures, greatly reducing “heat-soak” of the air intake system for greater horsepower at optimal driving temperatures.
The diffuser built into the new rear bumper stabilises the back at high speeds with more downforce on the rear axle. The bodywork package is completed by exchanging all chrome parts for 595 Competizione Limited Edition components.
The enforced diet has not only strengthened the Pogea Racing Abarth, but as a result of building an XXL centre intercooler, an additional fuel pump, new injectors, forged pistons, H-shaft connecting rods, modified turbocharger, as well as cylinder head machining with changed camshafts and larger intake and exhaust ducts, the engine performance and the acceleration have improved drastically.
The vehicle now has 331 hp available at 5,750 rpm and 411 Nm of torque at 3,450 rpm so that the four cylinder accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in a breathtaking 5.1 seconds. The top speed is 262 km/h which is also significantly higher than with the base vehicle.
The muscular package is completed by a stainless steel exhaust system with remote flap control, changed gearbox and high performance clutch with reinforced pressure plate.
All chassis components are specially tuned to the increased engine performance and built by Pogea Racing. There area four KW sports shock absorbers in a unit with progressively wound lowering springs allowing the vehicle’s centre of gravity to be lowered by up to 45 mm per thread.
Through the expanded hardness adjustment options, as well as the traction and pressure levels, the chassis can be perfectly set to the sporty demands of the driver and road characteristics. The braking system has revamped with 6-piston aluminum calipers with two-part, perforated 313 mm discs on the front and the perforated discs of the EsseEsse-braking system on the rear.
As the perfect wheel-tyre combination the refiner has built the Abarth OZ Racing Superturismo GT rims in 7×17 inch with 205/40/17 Toyo Proxes T1-R tyres.
Inside the car is transformed too, with style-conscious Pogea combining the finest leather and Alcantara and covered all plastic interior parts. The graining and the perfect hand stitching give an extra air of extravagant flair to the new Recaro Sportster-CS sports seats with side airbags. Further highlights are the LED interior lighting and the sound system with “Beats by Dr. Dre” loudspeakers.
The conversion is available with TÜV (German MOT) for all 1.4 litre Turbo Abarth models with a Euro 5 or Euro 6 engine from 12,500 EUR or from 43,500 EUR for a complete vehicle.
