If
you are an avid follower of the tuning scene, the name Underground
Racing means only one thing to you: twin turbo exotics. One of the
latest creations of these mad mechanics is a twin turbo version of the 2017 Audi R8.
This car is the world’s first
second-generation R8 to get a twin turbo treatment – or any substantial
engine upgrade treatment for that matter. The car is still in the works
and the tuner is putting the final touches on it, but this Underground
Racing Audi R8 Twin Turbo is going to be one badass machine when it’s
launched as it gets up to 2,200 horsepower in the full-fat racing
version.
But that’s not where UR begins. They
begin with a “Base” twin turbo program in which their 2017 Audi R8 Twin
Turbo with the stock ECU makes 800 whp (power at the wheels) on pump
gas. This package costs $49,000 installed. Stage 1 is pretty much the
same but costs $59,000 because it is racing fuel enabled and on which it
delivers 900 whp.
Then we get to stage 2 twin turbo package
which starts at $69,000 and offers 850 whp on pumps gas and a nice and
round 1,000 whp on race fuel. Moving on to stage 3, some serious engine
modifications happen here in order to give you 1,000 whp on pumps gas
and 1,250 whp on race fuel. This one sets you back a whopping $99,000
installed. A race version of this kit ups the output to 1,150 whp and
1,500 whp respectively.
But the crown jewel of 2017 Audi R8 Twin
Turbo by Underground Racing is the “X” version which has an undisclosed
price and comes with secret modifications in addition to what you get
wit the Race version. This one is good for 1,200 whp on pump gas and,
they claim, more than 2,200 whp on race fuel.
