It's such a shame Fiat's hot hatch is no longer sold in the US.
Fiat's future in America is looking bleak. Currently, the 500X is the only model the Italian automaker sells in America after the 500 hatchback and 124 Spider were discontinued. Sadly, this also means the hot Fiat 500 Abarth is also forbidden fruit in the US.
It's a shame because Fiat recently updated the Abarth 500 for the 2021 model year in Europe with more power than the US version, but German tuner Pogea Racing has taken it to the next level, giving the hot hatchback a new dose of attitude in its latest tuning project dubbed the "Hercules".
Based on the Fiat 500 Abarth 595 Competizione, the high-performance hatchback's 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine has been boosted to 217 horsepower and 258 lb-ft, up from 177 hp and 184 lb-ft in the standard car.
This power boost was achieved thanks to tweaked ECU, a new exhaust system with controllable flaps, and a 200-cell downpipe. As a result, the Fiat Abarth 595 Hercules will rocket from 0-62 mph in just 6.2 seconds and top out at 144 mph. Other mechanical upgrades include adjustable coilover suspension that lowers the ride height by 1.77 inches and 18-inch forged wheels with a choice of six designs wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.
Complementing the performance upgrades is a muscular carbon-fiber body kit adding an aggressive new hood with larger intakes, wider fenders, new side sills, and a massive rear wing. These components can be finished in a clear coat or forged carbon, honeycomb, and camouflage textures. The result is one mean-looking hatchback that makes us wish the Fiat 500 Abarth was still available in the US. Pogea Racing is selling the complete Hercules tuning kit for €18,810 ($22,805) - but that's excluding the price of the Fiat 500 Abarth 595 Competizione donor car.
