The peeps from Land Rover may have presented the Geneva crowd with three special edition models that celebrate the long and illustrious career of the Landie, but come on! Those prices are too far fetched for us mortals that simply want a Defender offroader.
All is not lost though. There are many tuning companies out there willing to spruce up any Defender, be it a 1983 or a 2015 model. On this ocassion, I want to talk about a lesser known outfit based in Donzdorf, Germany, dubbed Hofele-Design.
What you can admire in the photo gallery below is the Hofele-Design Silver Bear S 90 and its bigger brother, the Silver Bear S 110. As you may have figured out by now, the German company can mod any Defender Type 90 2-door and Type 110 4-door, as long as it's a 2007-nowadays example of the British 4x4 breed.
See those Mercedes-Benz G-Class-inspired headlight surrounds with LED daytime running lights? 495 euros a pair is good value, as is the 395-euro butch front grille with aluminum-finished mesh. Looking through the extensive price list, the most expensive thing you can tick from it is the neat-looking "3 rear seat in full leather" option, which goes for 3,770 euros. What about enhanced get-up-and-go?
Hofele-Design offers a single engine tuning for the Silver Bear Defender. For 549 euros, the German company increases the 2.2-liter turbo diesel's oomph from 122 horsepower and 360 Nm to 148 horsepower and 415 Nm. Not bad if you ask me, and certainly better than paying a fortune on a limited-run Defender.
