That's why we enjoy every time we find a normal family car that's been tuned by a shop in Japan which you've never heard off. Case in point is this Mazda CX-5, that's been targeted by Rowen.
A few Japanese companies have tried to tune the new CX-5 and Mazda6, but those kits are not available anywhere else in the world. We've seen the Rowen CX-5 about a year ago and today we caught a second wind when they uploaded the first exhaust sound clip.
The sports muffler for the Japanese four-cylinder engine makes this SUV sound a bit like an old Miata. Unfortunately, they only changed the last part of the exhaust, so there are little to no performance gains. But there are also comprehensive cosmetic changes available.
Rowen's kit, which you can check out in the photo gallery below, consists of 10 individual pieces that add a "prestige" feel, according to the manufacturer. These are mainly add-ons for the existing bodywork, and they consist of a huge front chin spoiler, a new grille, fog lights, extra LEDs, wheel arch trim, side skirts and a rear diffuser.
Around the back, Rowen installed not one but two spoilers, one at roof level and another under the wiper. If you have a fetish for family SUVs with race car diffusers, this may be to your taste.
Custom wheels are also available, either the WORK or BALMUNG BG1 ones in 20-inch sizes and fabricated locally in Japan. Performance rubber arrives in the form of Potenza S001 tires.
